Jo, a witty 9-year-old terminally ill girl is taken back to her rural village to live out the rest of her short life. Her only comfort during these dull times are her dreams of being a Superhero, which prove to be something her rebellious teenage sister Mwix, overprotective mother Kathryn and the entire village of Maweni think they can fulfill.

In a small village of Muruganpatti, India, a young boy Munna yearns for a red balloon more than anything in this world. But his pleas are always rejected by his poor mother every time he asks for one. Tired of imploring her, he decides to get one himself. All he needs is five rupees which he does not have. One day while going to school he follows some women labourers to a construction site and decides to work there for a meagre income of one rupee per day. The plan is to work for five days and finally make his dream come true.

An autistic child, Da-in lives on an island that is placed on the back of a big fish. One day, she meets a philosopher who is half man and half tree on a beach. The philosopher tells her that she must find a lady who is riding on a horse to express her heart to the island. Da-in embarks on the journey to the forest to find the lady on a horse. 11-year old street-kid Blanka survives alone in the streets of Manila. Inspired by an adoption story in the news, she dreams of “buying” herself a mother. But she has to make countless efforts in order to collect enough money. An opportunity arises when she meets Peter, a 55-year old blind street musician, who teaches Blanka how to sing. The first feature by director Kohki Hasei, ‘Blanka’ depicts a bittersweet reality from the perspective of the child that will certainly inspire children from different cultural backgrounds.
